These limited edition handmade prints represent part of an ongoing body of work that offers a humorous approach to exploring the icons and ideals of organized religion, while examining through exaggerating the subtle transformations present in religious iconography. Through excessiveness they become a critique of such mutations while also turning a critical eye on themselves and the class structures they operate in.
At the heart of Biblical Narratives is the exploration of the semiconscious sketch in the high art and religious realms. Scale and medium are used to heighten the inherent power and ingenuous playfulness of a spontaneous sketch. Neither polished nor filtered, these ‘sketches’ house unrefined thought and crude energy that cannot be ignored. They are meant to operate as reactions; ideas that have not been besmirched by the conscious thought process.
Original Limited Edition Silkscreen Prints.
All screens and prints are hand prepared and pulled by the artist. Negative areas of the screens are hand filled / blocked with filler medium by the artist. No photo emulsion or digital printing techniques are used.
The process itself is one of reversals as each area to remain blank on the final print is fist painted in by hand on each screen. The meticulous blocking out of these areas by hand with the smallest of brushes is essential to produce a final print rich with the subtle nuances of an unrestricted sketch.
